Site Trends
I used to be into the reviewing community on yoursite.nu back in 2005-2006 and reviewed a ton of sites while there. At the time I was nowhere near as expirienced in coding as I am now but that’s not my point in this entry. I recently got back into reviewing sites at rev.iew.me, which is an excellent site by the way, and I have noticed a ton of trends. Most of which I find extremely annoying. So I decided to make a kind of rant about some of the annoying things people do to their sites.
Tiny font- Who decided that tiny font was trendy and a good idea? They should be slapped. I have bad eyesite and trying to read pt 8 font is painful, literally. Uber pet peeve of mine!
Auto play music – One of the most annoying things anyone can put on their site. It interupts anything the viewer is listening to, and if it’s late at night and say you forget to turn off your speakers…BLAM the whole house is awake. Just…no don’t do it, it’s not cool.
Blinking text – It’s not horrible but I just find it annoying. It draws my eyes to it and most of the time it’s nothing important.
Half Naked Celebs – I just want to know why so many teeny bopper girls want these type of layouts. It makes the page look like a porno wannabe site.
Snow – And other falling objects just piss me off. Sure they may look kinda cool and it’s like, ‘look what I can do’ but no…they suck. First of all it bogs the browser and second it’s annoying when the images or whatever get in the way of whatever you are looking at or clicking on. Avoid it!
Mystery Meat Nav – One of the worst things you can do to your site. By mystery meat nav I mean a navigation where you can’t tell where the heck the links are going to take you. Label your navigation links no matter what!
Neon colors – This against a dark background is a killer to the eyes. Nuff said.
iFrames – They were cool years ago but now they are just ugly and there’s no real purpose for them.
Floating Nav – It’s a neat idea to have your nav float around the edge of the page and always stay on top of the content, BUT it makes it hard to see half the time and most of the time I mistake them for ads so I tend to not pay attention to them. Incorporate your navs into your layout, it’s just nicer.
Ok that about covers my layout pet peeves. What are some of yours?
Holy…wow… cow…
I have never seen anything like this before and all it leaves me saying is WOW. Check it out http://www.bobsgame.com/. Why on earth would Nintendo EVER care about his stupid game? Why does he think that holing himself up in his room for 100 days is gonna make any kind of impression on the company? He already did that for years so what’s another 100 days? Nobody is going to take some geeky gaming nerd that wears spiked shoulder pads seriously. Nobody really cares about his badly named game getting published.
This guys has an ego the size of Texas to top it off. He compares his game to some of the best out there and thinks he’s is the greatest.
I cannot finish “bob’s game” for Nintendo DS until I have the Nitro SDK!
I am supposed to receive a decision in 6-8 weeks. It has been 16 weeks!I don’t really know what else to do!
I’m beginning to think someone at Nintendo is insanely jealous they didn’t think of it first and
wants to keep me from releasing “bob’s game!
“bob’s game” is a game by ONE PERSON, and it’s one of the GREATEST GAMES EVER MADE- if not THE BEST.
I stand alone on a mountain no other has even dared to climb. I have swam across the ocean only cruise ships could cross.
I have walked through the desert of no return. I have stepped in the footprints of none, a path never taken.
I have MADE HISTORY, and history cannot be undone. It’s too late, Nintendo.
Just browse his page and it’s riddled with these types of comments. I have seen some “trailers” of his game and it’s mediocre at best. I wouldn’t ever pay for a game that looks like this let alone play it for free online. It looks boring as crap.
My other comment is, if he is so good at designing and coding games, why does his site SUCK SO BAD?
I will say one positive thing, that it’s impressive he was so dedicated to finishing it and that he spent 5 years on it. That in itself should be reward enough to know he came up with his own game. But now…he should get out of his room and go live life! It’s too short to waste on something that is not gonna change anything. There’s no real acomplishment in playing video games other than it shows you spend too much time sitting on your butt in front of a tv/computer, it’s not something you should run around bragging about. It’s not real.
Ok I’m done having my little comment about this.
