About Me
About Me
So you really want to know more about me? Lucky you! *sarcasm*
Ok so this page is kinda long, and if you read it all I’ll give you a cookie.
I guess I should start from the beginning, since that is usually good place to start. My name is Kris, I usually go by the screen name Greykitty (GK). I was born in the grand year of 1986 in a state known for it’s flat dullness and giant mosquitoes, North Dakota. I love animals and draw most of my inspiration from them, hence the reason my art is comprised mostly of animals, namely cats and dogs.
Now before I go any further with my artsy fartsy talk, since many people have asked, I shall oblige in adding a bit more about my self to go along with all the info about my arting. Some are actually interested in *gasp* my history and who I am as a person.
It’s pretty darn obvious drawing is a HUGE part of my life but not everything revolves around it. Aside from being born in flat lands North Dakota I have moved around a lot. From spending four years ND, I went to Cali-fore-nai-aye to my second residence on Edwards AFB. Living on an a military base is very interesting. I was there for shuttle landings and B2 testing. They would fly over our house all the time and create sonic booms, which felt like mini earth quakes and were sooo loud! While there I also lived through one of the big earth quakes of CA that did a lot of damage to LA. I can’t remember what year, but I remember it was night, I woke up, the bed was shaking and we had to get under our kitchen table.
After three years in CA I bounced on up to Colorado. There I was blessed to live and basically be raised in one of the most beautiful places in the country. Twas a small spit of a town but it was awesome. I could walk to where I needed if it was a store or if I wanted to go into the woods it was just a short walk away too. I was able to live there for twelve years until that abruptly came to a halt and I was moved back to CA. Since then I have bounced back and forth between Washington state and CA and even been overseas. Although I miss CO dearly and all the things I gave up there, I don’t regret having to move as it did many things for me and I met many people since then I would not have met otherwise. Including my very loving and awesome husband.
I was home schooled starting from 6th grade and I loved it. Granted my mom and I butted heads often enough, and even my dad, but overall it was great. I got a very good education and it was fun, I met some of my best friends through home schooling too. Whereas in public school I was picked on unmercifully, but I won’t go there. Ancient history.
I am usually a very quiet person and it takes a while for anyone to get to know me, though once you do I can be loud and outgoing. I love movies, action/adventure, comedy, animation (obviously), sci-fi, and fantasy. I love movie scores and have a fairly large collection of them, from common to very hard to find ones. I also enjoy hard rock, metal, and some oldies. Those are mainly what comprise my music library. I pull a lot of inspiration for my art from my music, especially the scores. I can get lost in my own little world when I start grooving to tunes.
Ok, so I’ll move on now from my little history blips to my art now…
I have pretty much been drawing since I was a little kid, though I didn’t start to really focus on what I was drawing, trying to get anatomy and such correct, until I hit my Softmore year in high school. I did have some private art lessons back in middle school on painting and etching but for the most part I am self taught.
I have an unhealthy obsession for drawing on the computer. I was first presented with Photoshop when I was 12 and ever since I have been hooked on the program and know it inside and out. I started off drawing by mouse and after much nagging from a friend I finally broke down and purchased a tablet, one of the best things I have ever bought. Drawing with a mouse is like trying to draw with a bar of soap.
As is pretty obvious I pull a lot of inspiration for my style from older 90′s Disney, Don Bluth, Universal, and 2D Dreamworks. After much blood, sweat and tears…er practice using those styles, I started to branch off on my own and make my style something a bit more unique. I still work on this but I do think I am slowly getting there. I believe an artist never stops learning, it’s a continuous journey of ups and downs, and one can never learn too much about drawing since we never stop observing the world around us.
I have always had the dream to become an animator. In 2007 I started that journey and was enrolled in an online animation course called Animation Mentor. I completed it in June of 2008 and I am now a certified character animator. I hope one day to get into storyboarding or concept art. I would love illustrating too, but for now I just work on private commissions. I will not let go of my dream to go pro though.
Lastly I shall bring up my geekery. I started tinkering with code when I was 12-13 by hexing Petz codes from the PF. Magic program Petz 3. I got pretty good at it too, I would make my own breedz and everything in it. After the newness of Petz wore off for me I moved on to html, CSS, and PHP. Everything I know about computers, including digital art, was self taught.
