Triple Combo Review!

The last three movies I’ve seen in the cinema, I just haven’t had time or motivation to slap up a review so here they are! Kind of short but I didn’t want to drop any spoilers.

Tangled, I do believe, is the best 3D animated Disney movie. Strictly Disney, nothing to do with Pixar, just to specify. I liked Bolt, but there were certain aspects I did not enjoy, and with Tangled I cannot really think of a part of the film I didn’t like. The intro is a tad on the slow side, but once the two main characters bump into each other the story takes off! All the characters are well thought out, none of them are annoying. Well I wanted to see her “mother” get punched in the face, but hey she’s the “bad guy” so that’s normal. :P Music is by Menken and it really shows. It’s not epic like Beauty and the Beast, but it is in the same style. The songs are sometimes, I think placed oddly, but others fit really well. I didn’t find any of them obnoxious like I did with Princess and the Frog. I will most likely purchase this one on DVD. I recommend seeing it, it looks great on the big screen. ;)

Due Date reminds me a lot of ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ just with a different storyline, but the jist of a guy trying to get home at a certain day is the same and having an obnoxious traveling companion to deal with throughout the timeline of his trip. This movie was pretty darn funny, couple scenes were a bit crude, but for the rest I was laughing pretty hard. I won’t put out any spoilers though for anyone who hasn’t seen it and doesn’t like that kind of thing. Both lead actors were great, and the “obnoxious one” was extremely stupid and annoying but you couldn’t hate him. I don’t know what else really to say about this film, it was really funny, would be a great Friday night movie date. Will I buy it on DVD, maybe. :)

Unstoppable is a great thriller. There are so many tense moments it’ll have your heart pounding. I didn’t know what this movie was about really at all other than a runaway train. The trailers made it seem like it was hijacked by terrorists, kind of like that bus movie with Keanu Reeves, but no! It was all because a negligent train worker didn’t flip on the brakes to a train carrying hazardous materials. It started to roll out and then the engine engaged and it picked up speed and went out of control. What they did to try and slow it was crazy, and to be based on a real story made this movie even more interesting. Both lead actors were excellent, they portrayed the emotions great and they were built up well. That’s why this movie worked so well too, you could feel for the characters and that made it pretty intense. I know several times both myself and my husband kind of held our breath or tensed up at certain parts of the movie. I would definitely recommend seeing this one in the cinema. Does it have big shiny effects? No, not really, but you get the full impact of the film on such a large screen. It makes it that much more exciting. This is one I will buy on DVD.

So there’s my triple combo review! Hope some find it enlightening. Cheers!

This movie was great! I really enjoyed it, good spin on the typical super hero vrs bad guy. The storyline was good, the humor was very funny and not forced, and the actors had good chemistry. The animation was awesome, well I’ve come to expect that from Dreamworks anyways. Also waited around at the end to see one of my mentor’s names roll in the credits, Jason Schleifer. Go check out his site!

I didn’t see this one in 3D because, quite frankly, i’m tired of wearing double glasses to see a movie in the theaters. It’s kind of a pain when you already have to wear glasses 24/7 to wear more on top of that. Plus it was like $5 cheaper to avoid it. lol Yes I’m a cheapwad. BUT either way, it was a great movie. You don’t need to see it popping out at you for it to be enjoyable, aka it has a plot, and an interesting one. The characters were interesting too, I could actually feel for the main one, which… is kind of rare these days. At least for me. The sidekick was NOT obnoxious… *le gasp*

Anyways, the story was really good. There was a good moral to it and it kept chugging along even in the slower moments. It didn’t get dulled down by the emotional scenes. Good soundtrack too, there were quite a few songs popped into there, but they didn’t interrupt the flow of the film, like I find a lot these days do. As I mentioned already, the animation is excellent! I loved watching all the different expressions each of the characters pulled and the body language was conveyed uber well!

GO SEE IT!!! Support the movie. :D It’s totally worth it.
I saw another movie yesterday which I’ll review later, I just had to spew forth my thoughts on this one now cause it was that good.

Alpha and Omega

(Finally got around to writing this! I saw it last month, just time has escaped me. XD)
It’s not amazing but it’s not terrible either. It had a ton of potential but didn’t quite meet that potential. It was ok for a brainless cartoon. I did enjoy the pretty pictures and the 3D. Though most of the time I think it would have been just fine in regular 2D. Only a few scenes really stood out.

The story is typical, you can figure it out in the first five minutes. Though I do have to give it credit for limiting horrible pop culture jokes and stupid side kicks. The side characters did hold a bit of intelligence unlike most kiddie flicks.

The acting is fine, the only part that really made me grit my teeth was when they started “howling”. They had the actors wail er… “sing” kind of. With a bunch of “oooooooooh”. I cringed every time. Bleq. I knock 10% off the film just for the howling, that’s how much it annoyed me. Thankfully though none of the woofies broke out into an obnoxious song, and the howling didn’t last more than maybe a minute at a time.

Anyways, aside from that, the animation was pretty good. Some of it was WAY over exaggerated, which is ok, but I think they should have made them act more like wolves. Too many kiddie movies make the characters act more human unlike classic animations like Lion King, or Jungle Book. They did have human qualities but you didn’t see them doing Kung Fu moves.

Hummmm I seem to find more negative than positive, oh snap! Guess I should say something good about it. WELL! What kept it from crashing was the part in the middle where they are shipped off to Idaho. They have some pretty good comedic moments there and the two bird characters they introduce are pretty funny too. The beginning is kinda ho hum and the ending is typical.

Overall, like I said, it’s not a horrible movie, but it’s not a really great one either. It missed it’s potential big time, but it would keep the kids entertained. Unless you’re an animation enthusiast I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone over 12.
