Animals

As far back as I can remember I always was fascinated by the odder/extinct animals, platypus, saber tooth tigers aka Smilodin, Thylacines and other creatures that are just weird or extinct. I can spend hours just looking up information and images of these creatures. Thylacine I remember doing a report about the Thylacine in particular when I was in middle school. Amazing animals they are, they also go by the names Tasmanian Tiger or Tasmanian Wolf. They were marsupials, nocturnal, and a light brownish color with dark brownish red stripes. They had an over sized mouth with a huge span, larger than most mammals have and a fairly odd build. They are extinct now since 1936 due to over hunting, but there have been supposed sightings of them from time to time which gives me the hope that maybe there are still some living in remote areas. It would be so awesome if one day they were found. I made a tutorial even for drawing them, which is up on the site. Anyways, check out this video it’s the most complete one I have found yet. The beginning footage is just a supposed sighting and poor quality, but the ones after are great even if they are only black and white.

sampson-foxAnother creature that always amused me is the so called Chupacabra. I don’t think it exists, however I do believe there is an animal out there that people just call the Chupacabra because they don’t know what it is. I found this video today and found it interesting. I find it the most likely answer to the ‘sightings’ of dead Chups since they aren’t quite canine but they look very close… a Sampson Fox is a good guess (see picture).
A Samson fox, from what I have looked up is basically just a regular fox with a genetic flaw that doesn’t allow them to grow guard fur so they are pretty much naked save for maybe patches here and there. I found some good videos with creatures that are good examples of them. I’m not going to embed the videos since I have too many for one post.
News report of supposed Chupacabra.
Decent quality home footage of what may be a Sampson Fox.

I might blog again about some of my favorite animals like this. I have a ton to choose from, ahhh I’m such an animal freak. Not that that’s a bad thing. :P At least I have a hobby!
So what are some of your guys’ favorite animals? Whether they be extinct, strange or just a common house pet. :)

Merry New Year!

So I missed posting my Christmas post…which was just basically the picture I drew and a Happy Christmas! So I didn’t do it cause I didn’t finish the doodle I had in time, and I didn’t want to make an incredibly short post that all it said was that. Anywho!

On to the main topic! I really do not understand the people who feel the need to hide who they are just for fear of being ridiculed by others. Even when it’s online! I have put up with people making fun of me for things I enjoy my whole life or recieving odd, almost condescending looks from people. Yes I am over 20 and I still love cartoons. Yes I prefer being around animals to being around other people. I love movie scores and have no particular favorite band, I don’t keep up with the latest fads and trends. In fact I usually avoid them. I would not give up anything I like or do just to please someone else who has a problem with who I am. I find it sad that people do do this when they don’t have to. Yes you may get picked on for it, but be strong and don’t give in to the stupid things they say. They aren’t more mature for doing “more adult things”, in fact they are just insecure about themselves and being the little kid about it. Respect other people’s taste whether you like it or not, it’s not grounds to pick on them.

I have rediscovered my long lost passion for researching obscere carnivores and ones from ancient times, like saber tooth, dire wolves, irish elk, etc. I don’t know why they fascinated me so much but they do! I have been looking up info about them a lot lately. When I don’t feel like gaming or arting I burn time by researching them, so I guess when I am wasting time I’m not really wasting it since that is somewhat productive…
I used to write most of my ‘freeby’ reports on animals and on the lesser knowns, one of my favorites I did was the Thylacine. Awesome creatures they are!
I have been getting the itch to draw some of these odd animals I have been looking up and might just do that sometime soon for practise and to just relax and get away from commissions for a bit.

Uhm I think that’s about all I had to spew out for today. I have some new art up and am working on adding some more to my about page. Still have so many things I would like to add and change on this site.
Anyways!!! I wish everyone a lovely new year! :)
Question for this entry… What are some of the things you enjoy researching in your spare time? Animals, plants, people, music, etc..
